GIS4035: Module 2 - LULC

In this week's module, we Classified Polygons by Land Use. Above is a map showing the land use classifications of Pascagoula Mississippi. Ground truthed by creating random points and cross-referencing their accuracy using Google Maps Street View. the red dots are false and the green are true. This was a useful lab and I can see myself using these skills in the future.

GIS4035: Module 1 - Visual Interpretation

GIS 4035 Module 1 exercise 1 and 2 maps above. Exercise ones map shows a variation of texture and tone labeled. Exercise twos map shows feature interpretation using shape, size, shadow, pattern, and association.

The learning objectives of this module included interpreting tone and texture of aerial photos, identifying land features in an aerial photo based on visual attribute, and comparing similar land features in true color and false color infrared photos. The Objective of Exercise one was to Polygons, Label, and be able to depict and discern different texture and tones in aerial photos. Texture is how much the tone and color changes over a specified area and tone is the brightness or darkness of an area. The Objective of Exercise 2 was to create point data set for and be able to depict and discern Shadow, Shape, size, association, and pattern to identify features in an aerial photo.  The objective of exercise 3 was to interpret color. This exercise compared infrared color to true color.

GIS5050: Final Project

Transcript link

Powerpoint presentation

This Final Project challenged me to use the skills I learned this semester to create maps and a project with little guidance. I impressed myself and hope I communicated the project objectives effectively. I am more confident now as I know my abilities, can do this alone, and understand how to do it on my own. Hopefully, this class and final project will smoothly transition into my next class and set me up for success.
