GIS5050: Module 4 - Georeferencing and Data Quality Lab

This map aims to communicate possible campsite locations in the De Soto National Forest. It includes the major water ways including rivers and lakes, Roads within the forest, and the highlighted colored areas are suitable campsite locations from smallest to largest. Measured in Hectares. the light colors are smaller and the darker are bigger.

In this lab, in order to make this map, we had to learn how to use the buffer and overlay geoprocessing tools in Arc GIS Pro. we completed both fixed and variable distance buffers as well as a compound buffer using the multi-ring buffer tool. I feel I was able to grasp the concept and can do this myself on later projects now. creating buffers is useful when trying to identify areas surrounding geographic features. Learning the Overlay tools is also a valuable learning outcome. I grasped this concept less than buffering but in the end was successful and think I could replicate the process in future projects. an overlay allows you too put multiple layers together so that the information those layers have can all be in the same place. preforming a union was the easiest way and the one I grasped easily. when I chose a different overlay tool to use it was a lot harder and took me a while to get the same result. to separate and exclude areas, I used the overlay erase tool which was a simple tool that worked. Overall I think I learned about two extremely useful tool sets that i will be able to use independently in future projects.
